Our Story

IMG_5759_edited.jpg

Jim and Karen have been singing and playing together for over 20 years in various musical ensembles. In 2007 they won runner up in the Country 105 Rising Star competition with the Ray Martin Band. In 2008 they continued their journey as a duo with the goal of refining sweet harmonies with classic folk songs from the 60’s and 70’s.

With the creation of Pork Salad Annie, they attracted musicians Rick on the djembe, and a year later, Greg on bass. More instruments meant more possibilities and jam sessions picked up considerable energy. It wasn’t long before classic and southern rock tunes made their way onto the set lists.

Pork Salad Annie hit the gig circuit with regular house concerts, block parties, birthday and anniversary parties. After the departure of Rick in 2024 we welcomed Tom and his percussion rig then Steve on rhythm guitar and harmony vocals. Get ready to rock your soul!

About Us

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

Karen discovered a passion for music at an early age inspired by her father who could play every instrument on the earth. Family gatherings often evolved into rousing song around the piano, or picking guitars and banjos around the campfire. At 19 she picked up the guitar and has spent most of her adult life involved in musical ensembles, harmony quartets and duets.

Music has been a consistent theme in Jim's life.  Since learning to play the accordion in elementary school, he has studied jazz at Grant MacEwan College, worked as a Music Teacher and toured Western Canada in various bands.  The journey continues as he focuses on the band, jazz guitar and song writing.

Greg is a bassist and guitarist, involved in folk/rock, jazz, and classical projects. Current groups include Four On Sunday (4OS), Ambrose University Jazz Band, Westwinds Blue Strings, and Pork Salad Annie.  Greg also volunteers with the Varsity Open Mic in NW Calgary, promoting community music for all.

Tom is a late bloomer to the music game and in his 30's began to explore what music gene he might possess.  It was in fact the rhythm gene. Tom considers himself a hand percussionist first and foremost but has learned to meld kit drumming and hand drumming into his own style. Influenced by Neal Peart (Rush) and Carlos Santana’s groups, Tom prides himself on equipping his Rhythm Rigs with as much gear
as possible to generate sound of unique tone from unique instruments within the band’s unique repertoire.

Steve comes from a musical family and has been singing and playing guitar on and off for 35 years as part of various musical and vocal groups. He loves singing harmony, contributing as much character the bands sound as possible through rhythm guitar and continuously growing and learning as a musician.
